Aspiration

Meet the Team

Mrs Porter – Head of School/Assistant Principal

As Head of the School of Aspiration, I am responsible for ensuring that every student in my small school is empowered to succeed, enjoy the Academy experience and develop their skills and talents.  Working closely with Miss Deakin and the tutor team, we ensure that students are supported to meet challenging academic targets, and progress towards these is regularly monitored. We put in place interventions to support students who require additional help to meet their targets.  I also monitor the attendance, punctuality, behaviour and the pastoral care of students with Mr. Bateman and we put in place support where it is necessary.  In the School of Aspiration, we have high standards and strive to achieve them.  We enjoy competition and reward students for their attainment and achievements.  We aspire to be the best!

Miss Deakin – Student Progress Leader

As the Student Progress Leader for Aspiration I monitor each student’s progress and attainment throughout their time at Freebrough. This relies heavily on analysing the data we produce through our rigorous monitoring and evaluation process and using the results to encourage students and provide opportunities to help them reach their full potential.

As part of the PE department I take an active role in extra curricular activities, which include running and coaching the netball and athletics teams throughout the year. I also run the Redcar and Cleveland Netball League and am an athletics team manager for Cleveland Athletics, both of these additional roles have helped me to develop links with outside clubs, to the benefit of Freebrough Academy students.

This year I will be leading Freebrough’s first sports tour to Spain which will be an excellent opportunity to reward our current teams and will encourage others to take part. I am keen to get as many students as possible taking part in extra curricular activities throughout their time at Freebrough and always aim to help and support wherever I can.

Mr Bateman – Pastoral Leader

As Pastoral Leader for Aspiration I work alongside the Head of School, the Student Progress Leader and the Learning Support Assistant to support students with any academic, social, emotional or behavioural issues or concerns that they may have.

I also work alongside our Attendance officer to resolve attendance issues. I aim to make sure each student gets a positive learning experience at Freebrough.

Miss Chapman – Learning Mentor

My role is Learning Mentor for schools Aspiration and Innovation.  I work with students who need help to overcome barriers which can get in the way of their learning.
