Key Stage 4 English
GCSE English Language
Students develop skills in Speaking and Listening, reading and writing in an integrated course. They study Shakespeare and learn to analyse how language is used to influence readers of non-fiction texts. Students also study a special unit analysing how spoken language is used to influence an audience.

GCSE English Literature
Designed to be studied with the English Language course and must be completed to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum. Students study a range of prose, poetry and drama, some of which will have been introduced to them on the English Language course.

GCSE English
Students study a range of literary and non fiction texts, and write in a range of different styles across the year. ALL students studying GCSE English will be entered at the end of year 10, and then there are a number of pathways open to them.

Media Studies
Students study a range of media topics, such as moving image, including film, TV and advertising, radio, popular music, print and electronic publishing and web based technologies. This is a one year course, to be completed after students have achieved English GCSE.

Entry Level Certificate
This course involves students completing a range of activities and task designed to develop basic literacy skills and help them prepare for Level One qualifications. If students progress well, they can transfer to a GCSE course. This is a two-year course, assessed by coursework and tests, all completed in class and supervised by the teacher. This will usually be completed alongside GCSE English.
